APPLY FOR PERMITS

STEP 5

APPLY FOR PERMITS

STEP 5

This section will help you get in contact with your local code office and your local conservation authority. Applying for permits is an important step in any building project and Turkstra Lumber always recommends taking this step.

Decks must be designed to meet code in order to resist stresses put on them. Decks need to be able to support the weight and movement of people and objects on them. Decks must also be able to withstand lateral, uplift forces and withstand high winds. A deck that is not built to code can be dangerous or even deadly. Turkstra Lumber always recommends that you obtain the appropriate permits from your city and local conservation authorities.

Do I need a Permit?
We recommend that you get the required permits for your deck project. It may seem like a hassle, but it is well worth the small investment of time and money to ensure your deck is built to code standards and is in compliance with local regulations.

Building a deck without a permit can get you into some serious trouble. Some people find out the hard way by having to pay a hefty fine, tearing down their brand-new deck or having someone get hurt because of faulty construction. Where do I get a permit?

Permits can be acquired by contacting your local permit office. Do I need a permit from my conservation authority?

Permits from conservation authorities are also required on most projects.
